Yes, with the right option and/or with the right modification of the
command line. But it's easier and faster to just add a cat than to find
the "right" way to do it.
That’s the whole point about it being useless.
On a modern computer, the time taken to avoid using cat is far more
important than the time taken by the computer to provide the result. So,
if you want a fast result, you don't care about UUOC and you just add a
cat when you want. It's the whole point about stopping the pedantic
speaking about UUOC. Because it's not useless: it provides an easy and
fast way to get what you want.
