Project I worked on was undersea repeater for optical cables.
Probably the worst organised and specified project ever, but that's a by
the by. They said 'you are lucky we are allowed to use a silicon
processor, up to 5 years ago we had to use germanium' 'Why?' Because
that was the only technology more than 15 years old that could be
guaranteed to last the 15 years'
When we built sequential runway lighting controllers the wire harnesses
had to be laced because the nylon ties used in industry hadn't had a
couple of decades of use.

Luckily all our techs were women, most of whom had knitting or macrame
skills. The heart of the system was an electro-mechanical stepper that was
also mostly obsolete in industry.
I was taught wire lacing as an apprentice. Doesnt need women.
I once asked an IBM technician I knew what is the biggest mistake a technician
can make and his reply was something like "we don't have to label the locations
of the connectors on the cable we are replacing because the cable is laced."
So technically a wire cable with 10 connectors that plugged into other components
in the machine SHOULD be laced so that the break out points of the connectors
aligned physically with their location in the machine.
It works, until the lacing was incorrect and then the smoke escapes from the
machine.
This was back in the 70's with yellow and black colored wired cables bound together
with that oily cord used back then.
