GNOME has been the province of autocratic Design Divas for at *least* a
decade and a half now; anybody that seriously cared about flexibility
jumped ship for (usually) XFCE or MATE after the GNOME 3 fiasco. If it
weren't for the fact that the same team is at the helm of GTK, we could
happily forget about them entirely :/
