Not only has that code not been revised in a while, seems like the server
it’s on has suffered some bitrot <https://wasd.vsm.com.au/cgi-bin/liner/>.

Does it do client-side SSL/TLS verification? That would be a good way of
locking things down further. At a quick glance, the answer is no.
