30 years ago would also have been when the Linux folks tried to do the
same sort of thing, with their libc patches. And they were ignored, too.
They got their revenge by being so spectacularly successful, the GNU folks
were ultimately forced to embrace them. And so we had the transition from
the Linux-specific libc5 fork to the GNU-official libc6.
