Well, great news for a microscopically small audience. Namely, me. For everybody else, it's another "Oh, Ubisoft" moment where you wonder what the hell the C-levels are smoking that made them think this was a good idea.
But you can just bet that when I read that Ubisoft launched "a full-blown NFT game", I was overjoyed. Not because I at all support such nonsense --predacious pyramid schemes aren't my sorta thing-- but I have a reputation as being that person who keeps bringing up news about NFT nonsense! And with NFTs having (thankfully) taken a dip in popularity this past years, that news was getting scarce on the ground.
God bless you, Ubisoft, for continuing to be the sort of idiotic assholes who still push NFTs!
But, in truth, beyond the existence of the game (it's called "Champions Tactics") there's really very little to say about the game. Ubisoft has been very coy with the release of this title; it's almost as if they don't want people to learn about this scheme. The game is free to play, although the various units --called 'figurines' in-game-- need be purchased or crafted using cryptocurrency. Once you own it, you can then resell it to somebody else if you really want. Prices range from $7 to more than $60,000 (although whether anyone is actually paying that is unknown). Of course, the damn things are worthless outside the game.
Still, there's nothing exciting about the game itself. It's a silly little turn-based combat game that would be utterly forgettable if not for its NFT connections. Nobody really cares about the game itself.
But it gives me another chance to rant and rave about the stupidity of NFTs, and that alone makes it worthy of a post on Usenet. Thank you for this gift, Ubisoft! ;-)
