Oh, yah, I knew I was missing something. Not really looking forward
to it. The AI in Civilization VI was just too dumb, and I don't think
they have any interest in improving it.
There's "Heroes of Might & Magic"; that's making a comeback in 'second
quarter 2025'. It's Ubisoft, though, so I'm not pinning my hopes to
highly... but it definitely counts as a AAA strategy game. Similarly,
there's a new "Settlers" game that was released just last year (also
Ubisoft). It got mixed reviews but the series keeps chugging on.
The "Age of Mythology" remaster just came out this week, showing that
the public's taste for -and publishers happiness to produce- more of
the "Age" RTS games remains strong.
There seems to be no end to the "Total War" games too.
"Homeworld 3" was /looking/ to be another triple-A strat, until it got
Gearboxed.
And that's just restricting us to 'triple-A' publishers. But there are
a lot of strategy game franchises chugging along in the background,
even if not all of them are pushed out by big-name publishers
("Crusaders", "Victoriana", "Tropico", etc.). The genre just doesn't
get much press.
