So, going onto GOG today, and the first thing I see is a big advert:
GOG.COM / Luna: PLAY YOUR WAY WITH AMAZON LUNA
Amazon Luna's cloud gaming service lets you play select
games from the GOG catalog on devices you already own.
Well, that by itself might be good if there's people out there who have old computers *and* also have Prime (unless Prime isn't required?) To enable them to play things like Cyberpunk and Witcher 3.
And I immediately become nervous. My mind jumps to the question:
Is Amazon in the process of buying out GOG.com?
Slightly worrying. Though I've got a lot of GOG games, and have actually paid a small premium to get some of them there vs. Steam realistically I can't see myself playing the majority ever again (or ever to begin with) Cyberpunk and Witcher 3 are the only ones that come to mind.
More worrying would be if they bought out the whole kit and caboodle and gutted CD Project Red.
That's purest speculation on my part. But I can't help but wonder.
Because a lot of GOG.com games have been on Amazon's PrimeGaming
service recently. Because Amazon has bought out other gaming platforms
before (most notably Twitch), preceding the buyout with an influx of
free games offered on the platform. Because GOG has admitted that it's
struggling as a business, and really the only way it has any security
is because of its parent-company's (CD Projekt Red) success with "The
Witcher" and "Cyberpunk 2079".
You left out MS who wants to control PCs and gaming on it, and may be (slightly) worried by the Steam Deck which doesn't even have Windows yet plays PC games.
* reminder: _never_ trust a corporation. They are not your friends.
Even the ones that do things you like.
Too true.
