This fight was incredibly frustrating for me, and took dozens of flailing attempts. His 2nd form does have tells that help in defending, so take a look at tip videos on fighting him. I'm not sure now if I did beat him on the 2nd playthrough, or gave up, or chose the easy ending.
I finally beat him this morning, about 44 tries, probably 3 or 4 hours total. A combo of gaurding/parrying and dodging with staggers using Mjolnir + Briar handle. I got his first phase down to taking only 1 hit several times, but the 2nd phase was a disaster I just finally squeaked by with a last greedy light attack.
I had tried a number of things others suggested like tossing things at him, but it was all worse than just fighting him. The only useful thing was using acid grinders (adds acid dots which keeps him from reneging his guard hp or whatever that's called on mobs. More than the pitiful damage it does.)
I do feel like the game is worthy of another play-through or two, so it's really not that big a deal if I do. Part of me is thinking I don't want it to end too, which may be part of my problem.
2nd playthrough didn't take nearly as long, and I had fun 'farming' and trying different builds in one of the late game levels, but wouldn't say I gained any greater appreciation. I'd just move on to another title :)
I started NG+ was not enjoying it, much too hard. I'd probably try a Motility or Advance build on NG. but limited time on Gamepass and after a bit of NG+ I needed a break. If it ever hits a good sale I'll buy it though.
I do keep feeling like I need a gun,
I enjoyed Remnant of the Ashes, which scratched that DS-with-guns itch for me. The upcoming Witchfire might have some of that quality too.
I'll have to check out RotA. I saw something on Witchfire, looks interesting, kind of like roboquest, but far more into the aesthetic I like.
There's a funny story about Witchfire in that it was originally released as a full game on Epic as an exclusive, now that the year is up, it's in early access on Steam! :)
