Alright, it's a new month, so we've got another chance to grab a bunch
of free-sorta-but-not-really games from Amazon Prime. This time we get
9 games spread across five different services. Even I'm finding it
hard to jump through all the hoops necessary to claim these freebies.
Amazon, you've admitted there's no way you're beating Valve at their
game, so can you just give people what they want and hand out keys to
games on Steam already? (I'm fine with GOG too ;-)
* Deus Ex: Human Revolution Director's Cut (via GOG)
This is the not-so-orange version, since one of the most
noticeable changes in the Director's Cut was to tune down
the orange filter that plagued "Human Revolution" when it was
first released. The game's fine; it's got some weak areas to
counterbalance its strengths, but it's Deus Ex and it's hard
to hate on that franchise.
* Yes, Your Grace (via GOG)
A kingdom management simulator, it calls itself, although
it's really more of a visual novel than any sort of strategy
game. It's more about getting to the ending you want than
the journey to get there.
* Colt Canyon (via GOG)
A pixel-art shooter. Meh.
* Redemption Reapers (via Epic)
A fairly bland top-down fantasy CRPG/tactical strategy
game. Doesn't seem very deep or engaging but I guess it has
its moments.
* El Hijo: A Wild West Tale (via Epic)
A sort of "Commandos" style top-down stealth game, except set
in the Wild West and featuring a toddler as the protagonist.
It's more about staying out of sight and solving puzzles
than blowing up Nazis though. It's got a very Morricone-
inspired soundtrack, though, which is nice.
* Republic of Jungle (via Epic)
A political-strategy game except the candidates are all
furries. Seems to be intended more as a party game than
something you play by yourself.
* Wolfenstein: Youngblood (via Microsoft)
"Youngblood" isn't a bad game, but it's not one you rush
out to get. It's got the usual new-Wolfenstein diesel-punk
aesthetics and gore, but it's story isn't very engaging
(it certainly hasn't got the wildness of "New Colossus")
and its focus on co-op play and open-world mechanics weaken
rather than strengthen the experience. But hey, you get
both the XBox and PC version of the game. Me, I'm not even
gonna bother.
* Night Reverie (via Amazon)
Apparently a puzzle game of some sort. Like pretty much
90% of all Indie games, it features a child protagonist
facing off against monsters.
* Royal Romances: Cursed Heart CE (via Luna)
Good to see Amazon going back to its roots and offering
_yet another_ hidden-object adventure game.
"Human Revolution" was a nice add, but seeing as I already have that
one I can't get too excited, and the rest of the offerings are pretty
much dross. Ah well; it's not like I pay just to get these games;
they're just bonus. And if The Number goes up because of it, well, I
won't complain TOO loudly. We'll see if more exciting games are
offered next time.
See y'all in two weeks.
