The Epic Game Store client has long been derided for its lack of
features, especially in comparison to Steam. Given how Epic's stated
goal was to take down Valve's monopoly, this continued failing has
been somewhat baffling. For over five years gamers have been telling
you why they don't use the EGS client, but it's still a sub-par
experience.
They say the first step to making things better is recognizing there's
a problem in the first place... and even Epic CEO Tim Sweeney has
acknowledged their software is 'clunky' and needs improvement.*
Followed up with the usual promises of improvement, such as voice- and
text-chat, a game invite API, and 'parties' (I'm guessing the later is
groups or clans?).
Myself, I'd also like to see things like streaming games to other
computers, library sharing, screenshots, user reviews, a mods
workshop, and a probably a bunch more stuff that the EGS client is
missing and Steam already has. But I guess I'll just have to be
satisfied that Epic lets publishers choose from any in-app purchase
payment provider, rather than using the one built into the client. I'm
sure that's a great feature a lot of players are clamoring for.
Or, hell... just actually seeing features implemented rather than
promised for some future update would be a good step. But they'd
better hurry; Fortnite's fame (and the seemingly endless revenue
stream it generates) won't last forever.
