I literally went, "Oh, it's Thursday!" as if it were a sudden
revelation just moments before writing this. I _know_ it's Thursday. I
_know_ that on Thursday we get free games from Epic. I _know_ that I
write up a little screed about that free game on Thursday. And yet, I
failed to put these three facts together until just a few seconds ago,
and when they suddenly merged into an amalgamated thought, it was like
some sort of epiphany. That's probably the most excitement I'll get
from this week's freebie.
* Mortal Shell
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/mortal-shell The developers call it a 'deep action RPG' but it's a
souls-like, and from everything I've read, a fairly mediocre
one. Not outright awful, but lacking in any originality or
real skill in design. It's a carbon-copy of the Dark Souls
games in tone and mechanics, but lacking that spark that
makes those games so addictive. If you've played the Dark
Souls games to death (ha-ha!) and are desperate for something...
well, not new but not just the same Dark Souls games again,
then maybe "Mortal Shell" has something to offer, but
otherwise just stick with the originals... or any of its
better-known competitors.
(also, there's some free-to-play crap, but I don't report on those)
Seven days until the next one.
