If you could get just ONE game this holiday season, what would it be?
New or old, doesn't matter. Whether it's an old classic you never got
your chance to play, or the latest release (or even some game just
announced that won't actually be out for a year or three), which games
tops your list?
Mystic Land: The Search for Maphaldo
Yeah, it a dumb title. But hopefully the game will turn out good. It
won't be out until 2025 though. It should play like an old school
dungeon crawler like Wizardry.
Oh, wow. That is incredibly old-school. It looks a bit more like
classic "Might & Magic" to me than "Wizardry", though. I mean, it has
an outdoors! Although I guess Wizardry did get an outdoors in the
later iterations. Still, I always associate it with dark dungeons
first and foremost.
[And lets face it, the outdoors in games like Bards Tale
and the rest was really just a dungeon map with a sky
texture anyway]
As fond as I am of games like "Dragon Wars", "Bards Tale" and "Might &
Magic", I happily dropped tile-based CRPGs as soon as the alternatives
became available. The stepped-based movement always rubbed me the
wrong way. I never really felt an urge to go back.
You probably know about this one already, but if not, take a look at
Islands of the Caliph; it's probably up your alley

Speaking of Wizardry... I wouldn't mind playing the Wizardry 1 remake
either.
Picking TWO games? That's unheard of! Who would do such a churlish,
unfair thing?!? ;-)
