I bought this game about 5.5 years ago direct from Ubi (I don't recall why, maybe it wasn't available on Steam at release, since right now Steam shows a 2023 release date.... I guess that's a way the marketing cunts can defer "new release" product buzz into multiple phases).
Just recently loaded it back up because the visual quality of the open world always struck me as something to come back to, so I did at a higher resolution (1440p).
It really is quite a visual treat, and a great game overall I'd say. The pvp is a bit hindered by the fact it's a third person with 1st person aiming.. Because of this "consolitis" syndrome, the camera the game wants to present the viewer is not always what a competitive player wants.
The overall user interface, as it relates to simple stuff like skill points, perks (ugh) and all of that is probably one of the biggest trainwrecks in gaming history, but is easily mastered after you get used to it over the course of an hour or so. Look up YT vids if you don't know how to do something.
Anyway yeah 6 years later visually impressive and holds up with the best of anything. Game play definitely shares some things with the FarCry franchise, which could use some infusion of creative ideas that would allow taking away x-ray vision, marking all enemies from a distance with binoculars, etc. But yeah it kind of works in a different way in this game so while I wouldn't pay full price for it, it's a nice game that focuses on mechanics instead of some shitty woke story Kim Belair wants to sell you.
They did add AI teammates since I last loaded it up. Not perfect by any means, but interesting.
Again though, the open world engine / visuals. Impressive, immersive, and for that it's definitely a recommend if you like this kind of game, just never pay full price.
Supposedly the next Ghost Recon game will return to first person. Thank God!
