this trailer has absolutely nothing going for it. This trailer is a
masterclass in how not to make a trailer interesting.
The most interesting bit might be Jack Black saying his character's name
and the other characters being utterly unimpressed, and that was not
that interesting in the first place.

They've just announced that filming is complete on a movie based on
Ubisoft's "Watch_Dogs" games.
 
Another franchise that absolutely did not need --or really, had the
setting or characters to support-- a movie based on it. Not that _any_
of Ubisoft's franchises really would translate to film, but
"Watch_Dogs" seems one of the more unlikely. It's a series that is all
about the mechanics and lacks any memorable narrative or characters
(in fact, "Watch_Dogs Legion" was famous in that it had _no_ main
characters, since any of the thousands of NPCs in the game could be
recruited into the adventure.
 
It just seems such an odd choice to make a film. Why not "Assassins
Creed" or "Farcry 5" or even "Rayman"? All of them seem more likely
subjects.
 
Well, it'll be fun to watch this one crash and burn too.
 

You have to remember how Hollyweird operates about this stuff.
"Is it popular?"
"Yes."
"Buy the movie rights.  We'll use the title and some character names.
People will flock to see it because of the game/book/YouTube
Video/Podcast/comic book/etc./etc./etc....  Well, maybe, we might think
up a better title."

Yeah, but they do that for _every_ possible license, and 99.9% of them
sink under the waves long before they get a script treatment. Usually
the franchise that spawned them falls out of popularity long before
the film gets into production. And "Watch_Dogs" (the game) never was
really _that_ popular to begin with. That they actually finished
filming Watch_Dogs (the movie) is weird. It implies there was someone
with real influence (or money) pushing the project.

I suspect it was Ubisoft --possibly Guillemot trying to justify his
family's control over the company and stave off yet-another buy-out--
but that they'd push /Watch_Dogs/ of all franchises is baffling.
_That_ is the franchise they think has the widest appeal?
