The appeal of games like YOOMP is sometimes as hard for me to
understand as why some people like 'walking sims' is to arcade fans. I
get that people enjoy that thing and - intellectually - can even
understand why, but it still seems a very weird way of spending one's
time. 😉
The appeal is a 5-10 minutes game "flash", you jump into a game have a short period of time fun and then jump out.
Thats also the reason why I still play pacman on and off every few months!
YOOMP itself is a technical marvel given the system it runs on, sure it does not look impressive from a modern perspective but if you look at the system it runs on which came out basically in 1979 then it is even more impressive what those polish guys did with it. I would rate it as high in my top list of the Atari 8 bit computers as I would rate Alternate Reality the city, technology wise for that system, it is at the top of what is possible on it!
