What time is it? Why, it's Steam Sale time! And you know what thatI kinda tried to stop looking at the Steam sales (just how many do they have a year now) a few years ago to get out of the habit of buying 'bargain' games that I could look at and think how much I'd saved only to never play them or just play them for a few hours. See also Amazon Black Friday deals, saying that I did pick up a new, well exactly the same as the one I already had, at half price just because the current one was getting a bit old and having two frying pans can be handy.
means! Time to bitch about Steam Sales again! It's tradition!
But honestly, it doesn't even seem like they're trying anymore. I
swear, the sale prices look like the _retail_ prices; like all the
publishers just jacked up the regular cost and then put it on 'sale'
for what it normally goes for. The savings just aren't there. All the
real discounts are only on games that have already been discounted to
hell and back for years.
I really miss the 'flash sales' Valve used to offer, when you got
massive discounts for a very brief period. I picked up dozens of
triple-A games back then for a pittance; now we're lucky to see them
down by 10 or 15%. But that's what happens when you achieve a monopoly
on a market; pleasing customers (or working to attract new ones)
becomes a lot less important. ;-)
That's not to say I didn't take advantage of the sale, but I'm pretty
sure I would have bought the games -and for pretty much the same
price- regardless of whether this 'massive store sale' was taking
place or not.
But hey, Valve is obviously trying. Why, if you play their silly
games, you can get some stickers* for your bother! Doesn't that just
want to make you rush out and visit Steam today?
* no, I've no fucking idea what they are either
