That's a GOG restriction, and not necessarily a bad thing. They COULD
streamline it, but then you'd have to give Amazon access to your GOG
account so they could automatically log in as you and add the game to
your account. It's what Amazon does with Epic games (and maybe Steam?
I forget. There are so few free Steam games on Amazon).

That's not the bit the annoys me instead it's why can't the client just
do what the website does. Having to go to GoG manually to use the code
doesn't bother me but instead that I can't just go to the client and see
what games are currently available and get the code if need be.
I am confused as to which client you mean: Amazon's or GOGs? Perhaps I
am misunderstanding your complaint?
In any event, the Amazon client can't show you GOG games because GOG
isn't allowing Amazon to directly link accounts, likely for privacy
reasons.
Galaxy, the GOG client, can't show you games available on Amazon for
the same reason; it has no access to your Amazon account, and Amazon
has no way to insert the "available but not yet claimed" game into GOG
for the same reason. Again, likely for privacy reasons.
Once you manually add the game to GOG, the game shows up in Galaxy,
just like any other game in your GOG library.
Arguably, Galaxy - the GOG client - should have a way to claim the
serial number you get from Amazon so you don't have to open the
web-browser and go to GOG.com to add the game to your library. But I
don't think the Galaxy client is a priority with the company; from
what I've read, the vast bulk of its customers primarily use the
web-site for buying and downloading their games. So new features are
slow to come.
But the fact that unclaimed games don't show up in the GOG client
isn't a limitation of the /client/; it's a limitation of GOG based on
their chosen policy. The games don't show up on the website before you
enter in the serial number either.
