Oh, you devilish cads at Epic. You've come back to tempt us with more
goodies, have you? Fine; once more I'll brave your horrific portal to
see what treasure awaits.
This week's treasures:
* Cygni: All Guns Blazing
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/cygni-all-guns-blazing-98f872 Sometimes you can judge a book by its cover. Or it's
title, anyway; I took one look at the game's name and
said, "Oh, that's a top-down arcade shoot-em-up". And
you know what? It's a top-down arcade shoot-em-up. And
it's everything you might expect from the type: very
pretty, lots of bullets whizzing about, etc. etc. It's
not a bad game, but completely devoid of novelty. But
if you're in the mood for a quick shooter, this one
will suit you perfectly.
* DNF Duel
https://store.epicgames.com/en-US/p/dnf-duel-07d055 My guess based on the title of this game was wrong; I
expected a first-person online arena-shooter. It's
actually a side-view 2.5D brawler. Apparently it's
based on the "Dungeon aNd Fighter" franchise and you
can choose to play as characters from that license...
which might be more impressive if I had any idea what
the "Dungeon aNd Fighter" franchise was about. Anyway,
other than that it's a rather humdrum punch-and-
kick tournament fighter; not a bad one but not a great
one either. It suffers from balancing issues and has
low player count too. There's really no reason to seek
this one out when there are so many better alternatives
on the market.
Two up, two down; neither entirely disappointing but there's no need
to rush out for them either. Well, you have the usual seven days to
decide if you want to feed The Number or leave these hanging on the
vine. We'll see if our next return to the hellish caverns of the Epic
Game Store are more rewarding.
