Kinda sucky. I thought that once I read a post in seamonkey they would remain downloaded, but it seems like I need to set the group as offline for that to happen. which I just did to avoid old threads becoming unreadable if this happens again. Not like I am going to run out of space as if this was 1997 and I had a 2.5gb HDD (with only 2 usable because the store formatted it as FAT16)
