What Have You Been Playing... IN AUGUST 2024?
Just a little Fallout: London.
Getting it going starting from an installation broken by the recent-ish
updates was a little meta game in itself. One of the stumbling blocks
was also that I wasn't up to speed with mod managers.
Apparently Nexus Mod Manager is now Nexus Mod Manager Community Edition
but hasn't been updated to handle Fallout: London specific mods. Vortex
seems to be the appropriate mod manager now. I actually also tried Mod
Organizer 2 but got only crashes.
Anyways, I now have a stable setup with a small handful of
near-essential mods and ENB for some extra eye candy.
As for the London mod, I'm kind of two minds about it. Pros are, it's
London and I've been reading the Cormoran Strike detective stories
recently which describe London in such detail I've been wanting to
visit. This post-apoc view of London is at least a substitute for my
travel fever. Also, the mod's Fallout which I like. Except for the
things I don't like...
On the negative side, the mod starts in a rather cliched way, you're an
anonymous amnesiac in a secret underground lab. Geez, how original. It
doesn't really pick up from there so it feels I'm looking at a very long
mediocre road. At least the opposition isn't that tough, in fact things
seem mostly easy, so far. Human opponents fall to my crap guns, a couple
of other enemies have been bullet sponges but nothing a few grenades
didn't tame.
Big difference to FO4 seems to be, there's no convenient Red Rocket
station with all the crafting stations available. But with a little
exploration, all stations can be found in two locations.
Also, apparently no easy-to-grind-for-leveling radiant quests. Good and
bad, really. If they were there, I probably couldn't help myself, I'd
just grind those to get all the skills I want and then play the game.
