I didn't get as far as you did Justisaur, but I too got bored with it
quickly.  Then I read a review that I need to meet my in-laws made me
quit immediately.  That is not what I expected Starfield to be like.
And I preordered it!

I just don't think pre-orders are worth the risk any more especially in
the age of digital store fronts. You might get some virtual 'baubles' or
even access a few days early* but that's about it. In return you get the
possibility that the game won't deliver what it said and the enjoyment
of playing a game that is likely to be buggy. The last one I did was
Bioshock and it wasn't it bad game as such but just not the excellent
game I though I was getting.

*There now seems to be a trend of providing even early access but only
in premium editions. Oh joy, I get to pay extra to give you some free
testing. Sounds reasonable.

Early access is especially frustrating with multiplayer games since it's
literally (even more) pay to win since you get more time to build your
level and stuff

I'm ok with the the more traditional idea of early access in that it's a
two way exchange of you get to play a game, although unfinished, early
and we get you to be a free tester for it. It's this new one of the game
is finished (well as much as that means nowadays) and here's what we are
going to do to screw a bit more money out of you.

Right, and modern game seem to be broken for months after "release"
