What do you think; does the Final Fantasy series have a future as a tent-pole franchise for Square Enix, or should they perhaps re-evaluate the direction (and scope) they are going with these games?
Final Fantasy has been stuck in an identity crisis for some time. It
was perceived as a franchise for seniors, next to Dragon Quest. They
were so desperate to attract a new younger audience that they deviated
from the classic gameplay to extremes. They failed to attract new
audiences, and lost a lot of the old fanbase, that went to play Bravely
Default (a loveletter to classic Final Fantasy) and stuff like Octopath
Traveler.
I wish they would make more Ivalice games. Tactics and XII were great,
but I can't get into online games (XI and XIV)
