There's always the threat of being doxxed, swatted, people complaining to your work about you posting nonsense (which is what I understand happened Michael Brown (sp?) in the dnd group and why he disappeared ages ago.)
It's much more rare, but it does happen. My real name is fairly connected to this handle though so it's not hard to find out my meatspace name. I even posted with it in some groups originally. I had a different handle before I started with usenet when I was on Fido and BBSes.
