do people use Steam groups at all? that seems to be one of those parts
of Steam that just is there with no interaction at all.

I really get the impression that Valve thought up as Steam points as
being something with real monetary use (you get 1 point per 1 US
dollar of purchases, I think), that could then maybe be redeemed to
buy games or something real.
