Ho-ho-ho!
Hey, we're a whole week into the CSIPGA Holiday Give-Away; how 'bout
that? And we've only just begun. Even if you aren't liking /all/ the
games on offer, I hope you are still finding them more welcome than
the years-old fruitcake and boring office-parties-with-the-boss that
make up the rest of the season. Although pretty much ANYTHING is
better than those office parties...
We got more games today, of course. We got two of the 'duplicate old
DOS games nobody wants', and _even I_ think they're so awful and
unwelcome that I just had to throw in TWO more modern games to make up
for it. This one time, I'll forgive you all for not taking up the
option to claim these games. ;-)

One of Apogee's earliest platformers, and boy howdy
does it look it. It could be worse --at least it's
16-colour EGA instead of 4-colour CGA-- but its got
PC Speaker sounds and very basic gameplay. You really
gotta love classic PC platformers to want these. In
fact, I dare you --no, I double dog dare you!-- to
claim this game. But I know you won't, 'cause you're
too chicken! (reverse psychology still works,
right?;-)

You can probably guess what this game is like just by 270CC
the title. You can certainly guess it's license (although
it's sadly based on the 2004 remake series and not the 8YE4B
classic series from the 70s).The gameplay itself is turn-
based strategy, although its visuals impart a lot sense
of a lot of frenetic action. It's not the deepest game,
but it's a lot more fun than you might expect given its
origins. I didn't stick with the game very long myself,
but the short time I spent was enjoyable enough. I TD5W6
think it's worth a look.
* Ampersat

We'll round out today's offerings with a Rogue-like RPG.
"Ampersat" uses a combination of ASCII characters (mostly
for the monsters) and modern graphics, and some of the 5WEB3
gameplay is a bit more Zelda than true Rogue, but it still
plays pretty true to its origin. It's a bit niche --I think
the people who will most enjoy this one are the ones who JW7BX
enjoyed classic "Rogue" or "Angband"-- but if you fall 2NNEC
into that grouping you'll probably have a lot of fun.
Rejoice! That was the last of the duplicated Apogee games! Now any
duplicates that pop up (yes, there are a couple) will be of a more
modern vintage. But what games are they? You'll have to stick around
to find out!
Oh, and before I forget:
