The topic -and the company in question- came up last summer when their
plan was first announced. It wasn't well regarded then either. It's
only gotten worse now that it's revealed that the company is using
bait-n-switch tactics to sell (erm, rent) their products.

The biggest advantage supposedly was the "we'll update your PC for
free every two years" bit, except the updates weren't all that
impressive (honestly, the PCs on offer are all somewhat behind the
curve as I remember) and there's always the worry that the program
will shut down or change before you get to the promised update. And
even so, you end up paying more for this protection plan than you
would if you just, you know, bought the computer or upgrades yourself.

NZXT's "Flex" rates were outrageous. A two year plan cost about $4000
USD... for a computer that was maybe worth half that.

NXT isn't really an unknown player. I mostly know them for their
chassis and power supplies, but they make mice and fans too. I think
for a while they produced Nvidia GPU video cards too. They were never
really GREAT (and always seemed a bit overpriced) but they were
definitely targeting the gamer-PC crowd (e.g., the ones who think lots
of LED bling is a GOOD thing, and that any PSU less than 800W is a
waste ;-) so if you aren't in their market it's no wonder they escaped
your attention.

Well, they've definitely got their name out there now. Just not in a
good way. ;-)
