I guess what I'm really asking is does anyone here pre-order... and WHY?
Do you get anything out of it?

Nope, closest I've come is buying Fallout 3 on day 1, and I sure feel I
would've been better off waiting. I do have a lunchbox and bobblehead
for my trouble though as they only had whatever edition had those extras
at the Gamestop I bought it from.
Please tell me it came in the lunchbox.
Heheh. I have that lunchbox! I'm a sucker for game-boxes made out of
metal. ;-)
I don't know if I got it on launch-day, but I definitely didn't
pre-order it. I do recall they were available for long after the game
came out, sitting dustily and unwanted on store shelves, waiting for
some sucker (like me!) to buy them.
I was always tempted to use the lunchbox for its intended purpose
(carrying a lunch!) but I never did. Not because I thought it was
silly, but the damn thing was just too bulky. So, like its unpurchased
brethren, my box sat on a shelf collecting dust ;-)
The game was fun, though.
