Ah, Diablo Immortal... when Blizzard really seemed to be going off the
rails. Despite some fumbles with the "Diablo 3" marketplace, they were
still largely a darling of the gaming community, but the whole "Do you
guys not have phones?" made it apparent that they were becoming
out-of-touch with what gamers wanted. "World of Warcraft" was in a
rut, there were the missteps with "Overwatch", the "Warcraft 2"
remaster was a mess (and the movie a flop), there were allegations of
employee abuse... The company, which was once seen as doing no wrong,
was having a hard time connecting with its customers.
Blizzard redeemed itself somewhat with "Diablo 4" but it still hasn't
the same regard it once had in the 2000s and early 2010s. "Immortal"
definitely played a part in that decline.
