So, for a long time after this initial post (which I CC'd to GOG) I
was free from those annoying emails. You know, their marketing emails
announcing discounted games... except they never put the actual title
of the game in the email's subject line, but instead used some
alphanumeric gibberish representing the discount code. It's a stupid
way of doing things, but GOG's marketing division has never been very
on-the-ball.

It was never really clear to me if GOG had taken the hint about the
subject line or just pulled my name from the mailing list. I strongly
suspected the latter, but either way, I wasn't getting annoyed by
those nonsensical subject lines anymore, and I didn't care to
investigate. This last about four months, when they suddenly
reappeared. I guess some program found my email address again! I just
sighed and made a new spam-filter.

But today one skipped through... and it's even worse. Unfortunately, I
can't show it here because Usenet, being one of the sole remaining
Internet locations that hasn't succumbed to the emoji insanity, won't
transcribe the subject correctly. But in essence, it reads:

"Your exclusive discount![scissors emoji] [coupon emoji]"

And it's like... what the fuck goes through marketing's head? Is
emulating spam really that important to you? What's wrong with you
guys?

And yeah, again, I know: I could just go into my account settings on
GOG and disable the emails entirely. But --believe it or not-- I
actually WANT to hear about their deals (how else can I grow The
Number at a moderately inexpensive price? :-). I just wish the subject
lines of their emails weren't so god-damned annoying!
