Well, not that hard-drive, but it was a similar, dishwasher-sized
device. And although 'worked with' implies I had any sort of hands-on
experience, that's a broad exageration. I was in the same office with
the machine, that's all.

Still, I remember seeing it and being told what it was, and not
understanding a thing about it. I've no idea what its capacity was,
and don't even remember the brand. I was much more impressed by all
the spinning tape reels which, to that point, still represented "super
computers" to me.

It was only years later, when I already owned a hard-drive in my own
computer, did I look back and realize what that boxy appliance I'd be
shown was... and how far we'd come since then. In many ways, it was
very same experience I had with the micro-SD card; mentally, I was
comparing my 3.5" HDD to the behemoth I'd encountered all those years
ago, and marvelled at the difference.

I'm pretty sure if I went back in time and showed those IBM techs my
micro-SD card and told them it had 200 thousand times the capacity,
they'd have burned me at the stake for my impossible heresy (and also
for messing with the time-space continuum. IBM techs really didn't
like when you do that ;-).
