That was more or less my opinion on the games too: "They were
alright". The mechanics were fairly solid, but I quickly tired of the
tedious traipsing back and forth across the open world, I thought the
whole "Nemesis" system was overblown, and the story was dull. It
looked pretty enough, but it lacked any amazing set-pieces, and the
visuals overall were fairly average.
"Shadow of War" (the second game) also released with a terrible
microtransaction/lootbox system that -fortunately- was reversed by the
time the GOTY versions (or whatever it's called that they're selling
now) came out. But it screwed over the franchise's biggests fans who
bought the game day one.
