There's me saying I'm not interested in the sale and less than a day later I've bought a game. Now in my defence I wasn't actually going through the Steam sale but instead someone mentioned Chaos in a ZX Specky group. That reminded me of a game I'd heard about, Chaos Reborn - well at £1.74 I thought why not.
Holy shit, something I'm buying right this second! I never had a ZX Spectrum, but it was ported to the Atari ST*. I loved playing it even against the AI. I even found a web version at some point, though I can't find it now and doesn't seem to be in my bookmarks.
I see a number of bad reviews on this game mentioning it's slow and plays poorly, but none that mention the original game. I doubt it has all the cool samples and silly names of the enemy wizards, and the game was only really good for an hour or two unless playing hotseat against others. Still worth the risk for $2.49!

I have seen some of the bad reviews and the part about the UI not being exactly polished is a fair one. Being slow, that one I don't think is really fair. It's a game you have to think about where to move your units and balancing risk of what happens if this fails. If you compare it to something like the new generation of XCOM it's just different. In XCOM it's a relentless drive forward, oh look there's that cover to get to, while Chaos, like the original, has a more chess like approach.
