Honestly, it does... and quite extensive lore too. Still quite
sophomoric too, since it's a based on a high-school student level of
'this is cool'... but there's a lot of it. BethesdId went through a
lot of trouble explaining the back-story between what the demons were,
where they came from, who the various enemies were, how the war came
to earth (and the human's mistakes in attracting the attention of the
diabolic), and who the Doom-guy is.

For me, at least, it's by far the most interesting thing about the new
Doom games. Certainly it isn't the 'push-forward' and pinata-enemies
gameplay, which I've never fully engaged with. Just the fact that we
aren't continually fighting and re-fighting the same "Demons appear on
Mars" battle over and over again is welcome.

But, yeah... all this in a game designed by a guy who once infamously
said "The story in the game is like a story in porn. Everyone expects
there to be one, but it's not very important." Well, now the story is
the driving force in the franchise.
