Considering his role in the history of the British Isles he's surprising unknown beyond rode a horse, had a wart and won the English Civil war.
His biggest achievement though, showing the rest of the world how to have a 'proper' revolution. Win a civil war, execute the king and then shortly after decide maybe that wasn't a good idea and put his son on the throne.
