I don't know if anybody ever played Defiance 2013 or Defiance 2050 in
this group. I played both and enjoyed the games. I was quite
disappointed when 2050 went offline a few years ago

The 2013 version is back again via Fawkes Games

You need to set up an account and download the launcher. It's free to
play and servers are well populated again. There is an online shop but
it's not pay to win as far as I can tell.

It's fun if you like naff Sci-Fi instanced games with some basic
looting and crafting, missions to complete, and weapons to upgrade.

The graphics are suitably terrible and the AI is (still) braindead at
times. But, I'm enjoying the nostalgia at the moment.
I never did play it, largely because MMORPG/live-service just isn't my
cuppa, but I remember -when it was out- that it was one of the few
games of its type that I /considered/ playing. It looked neat.
I even watched the TV show (which was awful in the way SyFy TV shows
always are; a series with so much potential but never the polish or
resources to prove itself).
I remember years later "Quantum Break" -which also released as a
game+TV show- advertised itself as the first to do so, and I
remembered thinking, 'wait, didn't Defiance do it first?'
Good on the fans on bringing it back. We'll see how long it lasts,
though.
