On a vaguely related note (e.g., I don't really want to make a
separate thread on the topic), there's been a recent release of a
fan-project to update the old Myth games. Called "Project Magma", it
updates "Myth 2" to the "Twice Born Edition". Available here:
https://projectmagma.net/downloads/Honestly, I'm not that wowed with the project; it's mostly
compatibility hacks, QOL features and some minor upscaling of the
textures. I like it because it gets the game running on modern
hardware but in terms of visuals and gameplay it still very much feels
like a game developed back in 1997. Sure, it was a good game in 1997,
but even with the mod it still feels dated.
Honestly, it's the sort of franchise that could use a nice revamp,
something deserving more resources than a few beleaguered fans can
throw at it. Although I suppose that were modern-Bungie to get
involved in such a thing, they'd turn it into a third-person shooter
with live-service episodes and MTX cosmetics so you could dress up
each one of your soldiers as characters from other Sony properties...
So maybe its better to let sleeping dogs lie.
