Thanks a lot, Nintendo!

Snarky headline aside, this isn't really about Nintendo and I'm not
really blaming them for this news.

That news being that Microsoft has recently announced* that they too
will now be upping the price of their games to $80USD. Yes, Microsoft
doubtlessly did this only BECAUSE Nintendo made an earlier
announcement saying the same thing but let's face it, games have been
underpriced for too long. Microsoft is just using Nintendo as cover
for what they've wanted to do for a long time.

Of course, Nintendo themselves said their games are going to go up in
price to $70 to $80 USD (as opposed to Microsoft, which latched onto
the higher price as the new baseline), so there's that. Plus, Nintendo
games are (for whatever reason) seen as a more premium product than
Microsoft's wares. So I think Microsoft's announcement won't go down
as Nintendo's move. But even so, I don't think there will be much
pushback. People are just so used to being squeezed by corporations
that they'll just quietly accept this latest indignity... and probably
buy fewer games because of it.

Expect to see more big-name publishers announce that
$80-is-the-new-black in the future. As predicted, Nintendo's
announcement was the catalyst.
