What an oddly low-fi mix of games this month.
I agree, Shadow Gambit looks at least halfway decent, that JRPG might be
nice but looks a bit too generic. Maybe I'll install the Jango Fett game.
I keep wondering why I actual subscribe to Choice at all.
Because $12 for 8 games is a remarkably good price, even if half of
them aren't to your taste? And you don't have to skip months if there
aren't any that appeal to you? And they make The Number go "bing!" eon
the first of every Tuesday? ;-)
Do you ever consider the consumer aspect of paying for your games? Each dollar spent is a dollar voted for the types of games you enjoy. If you wheel & deal to get every title, you're not really helping the industry decide what's good. I know spending $12 can feel like a massive burden and you'd rather buy a Vente mocha latte at Starbucks, but this money goes to a good cause. I was thinking about the games I'm working on. If I just get back a decent fare for my time spent that's not too bad because it's all gravy.
On the other hand if I have to do customer service for a bunch of guys who wrangled the game for free - that's not interesting to me. I used to think Avernum was overpriced at $29 but not anymore. I've put at least 200 hrs into that game and haven't even significantly progressed into the sequels yet although I own them. Making progress though. It's a tough enough game that it looks like my first win will be at the easiest difficulty. I've got the starting party but I've put points into spears for the priest and points into bow for the sorceror. Having this weapons advantage is really something in combat because we often take out 3 guys per combat round. Meanwhile since I get two points a level, one point is always benefiting the particular magic class.
Toughest monster killed in current game - Aranea Hivemaster. I think this guy has a million hit points. The guy in Spiral Pit was tough too, but I expected that.
