Did anybody play the original? I have it in my Steam library but I
don't think I've ever gone beyond starting it up, changing the
graphics and key bindings, and then forgetting about it until it was
uninstalled to make way for something else (which probably ended up
getting the same treatment as well).
I thought I did, but apparently that what I actually played was either
"Sinking Island" or "Submerged".
You beat me to the post about the topic of too-quick remasters,
though. While "Sinking City" isn't the worst of them (let's all say
hello to Sony and "Horizon Zero Dawn") it is increasingly common for
publishers to "remaster" games released just a few years ago, even
though they very obviously do not need a remaster. It's just an
extremely inexpensive way to give one of their games a bit of extra
life.
I wouldn't be surprised if we soon see games intentionally cut-back
/just/ so a version with 'updated' graphics can be released in a few
years. You know how some games come out with these optional "high
definition texture packs" made for people with uber-powered GPUs?
Expect those to disappear as freebies because they'll be needed for
the remastered version they'll be selling in three years.
Sort of like how publishers insisted, back in the late 2000s, that all
these DLC expansions we get were NEVER material cut from the base
game, except now it's obvious that is exactly what is happening. Or
how we lost all those neat extras (big-head mode, alternate
characters) that used to be included as "new game+" mode options but
now we have to pay for as cosmetic DLC.
