So apparently they are making a VR-only Thief game. A Playstation VR-only exclusive. And it doesn't even feature the original protagonist.
And you just have to wonder... why?
It's not just that VR is struggling for relevance. For all the tech is conceptually neat, it just isn't selling and it doesn't seem as if that's going to change any time soon. But even if you still have hope in VR, it will remain a limited market for years to come, so making it an exclusively VR game doesn't seem very wise.
But... then to put a game best known for its dedicated PC fan base on Playstation? Yes, I'm sure some of those fans own Playstations. But if you want to make money, you go to where the money is. The Playstation never got the first three games and the Playstation port of the 2014 game was the worst one. Playstation fans aren't clamoring for Thief; PC gamers are.
Of course, what they want is the return of Garret, the eponymous and gravelly-voiced thief of the previous games. So instead... they replace him with ingenue "Magpie", because why give the customers what they want.
And Embracer Group --the publisher that currently owns the "Thief" franchise-- wonders why they struggle to remain afloat.
