I'm going to go for Balance of Power which I played for many hours on
the Atari ST. A great little game even though you pretty much always
ended up in a nuclear war.
They made an updated version of Balance of Power for PCs (it actually
ran on Windows 3.1) in 1990. It was cunningly subtitled "The 1990
Edition". It was almost entirely the same game, except with slightly
better graphics.
I can't say I was particularly impressed by the game when I came
across it, but that's again because by the time I got it, the game was
quite old and I'd played better, more modern games. I did get the
impression, though, that had I encountered the game back in 1985 (when
the original version came out) I would have been amazed by how awesome
it was.
Alas, neither version is currently available on digital marketplaces.
Yo-ho-ho?
