As a development platform I find Linux/Unix far superior to Windows and I remember the first time I moved to Windows after many years with Solaris. I just couldn't believe how limited it was when it came to all those little tools you could string together to do all sorts of things.
As a gaming platform, like you it's a no for the same reasons of compatibility.
