I did a bit of googlefoo and the answer seems to be yes. Personally I never quite understood why people would use them as what do you actually get out of it.

Also to explore without having to worry about dying, find hidden rooms with no entrance, or all the secret areas. Not having to come back later with key x to open a door (personally I hate that, but haven't gone that far.)
