For a long time, I used to intentionally face death over and over in Zork, because (I don't know why now) I wanted to see the limits of my environment. In practically every game, actually. You might say, people die lots of times playing Zork, but I was doing stuff that was clearly in game suicidal.
Does this sound familiar or odd?
I think it broke the illusion in some way and I began to see beneath the veil.
However nowadays I am more appreciative (or less explorative) and tend to respect the game atmosphere a bit more.
