So... I guess we'll talk about "Squad 22: ZOV".
On a vaguely related note:
While Valve was hands-off with regards to a pro-Ukranian invasion game
"Squad 22", they were quick to pull a mod* that presented the Korean
government's actions in Gwangju Uprising in a positive light .
For those not up to speed on Korean history, South Korea - under
military dictatorship in 1980- brutally squashed an armed uprising in
1980. The game, a mod for "Mount and Blade: Warband", is a revisionist
depiction of the event that tries to justifu the massacres.
At the request -not a court order, but merely a request- of the Korean
government, Valve removed this mod from its workshop... not only for
gamers in South Korean, but worldwide.
Now, I'm not necessarily speaking against Valve's decision here. From
what I've read, the mod is extremely right-wing, pro-authoritian
leaning and I don't think we need more stuff like that on the net.
But it does speak volumes that Valve took a stand on THIS mod -which
isn't illegal and in no way breaks any of Valve's code-of-conduct
rules- but turned a blind eye to "Squad 22", which arguably /did/
break Valve's terms of service agreement.
Just wanted to point out this discrepancy.
