One of the problems with Apple's "dumb terminal" design of millions of
users logging into Apple servers at any given microsecond, is that when the
network to the matrix goes down, everything stops working.
 Which happened today.

 Verbatim:
"Apple's iCloud service suffered an outage today which appeared to affect
a number of other Apple services as well. A number of users flocked to Down
Detector to report issues with iCloud.
The outage prevented people from accessing services connected to iCloud
like Photos and iMessage such that they couldn't sync or download.
 The problems began around 11:30 a.m. Pacific/2:30 p.m. Eastern.
A quick glance at the Apple Status page revealed a mix of products went
down, including iCloud Web Apps, Find My, Photos, and more.
While reports slowed down from an initial peak of around 900 at 12:30 p.m.
Pacific, it was a steady decline. And the Apple status page didn't
officially return to normal until around 4:15 p.m. Pacific.
The outage lasted for just over 5 hours."
Let's see how the Apple trolls claim that the iOS device is not a dumb
terminal in light of what happened today - which is fact they can't deny.
It occurs that you do not know ForeFlight. It's aviation software used by pilots of everything from a Piper Cub to Gulfstream jets. It does not need any connection to the outside world other than GPS and Connext. The latter is FAA service signals transmitted to a any onboard transponder with ADSB capability. Bluetooth connects the transponder to the phone. With that data and your downloaded maps database you can navigate and receive current composite radar and airport weather and NOTAMS. The iPhone does all the computing. The maps can include worldwide:
IFR area charts
VFR area charts
IFR approach plates
IFR departure and arrival procedures
You can select areas of interest and download before you go. I have the U.S. east of the Mississippi.
You get detailed airport information and can also compute weight and balance and much, much, more.
Similar software, Garmin Pilot is the best one, is available for Android.
