Perhaps you should dwell a while? Surreal numbers are /fun/,
and arise naturally as a subset of [combinatorial] games. The late,
great John Conway singly and together with the equally late and great
Elwyn Berlekamp and Richard Guy [all three died within a year] wrote
entertainingly on the subject, and the great-but-not-late-at-the-time-
of-writing Don Knuth wrote an introductory short novel. Other authors
are available.
