You really expect a remote client to trust a connection to some random
machine just because the destination port number is in some arbitrary
“privileged” range?
It probably made more sense in The Old Days, when most users had
accounts on multi-user machines they didn't own.
Today, most users are probably using machines they own or administer,
and have full root access.
