Aucune incompréhension, aucun cannibalisme.
Par contre, "I had friends to dinner" se dit moins que "for"(et vraiment pas souvent en anglais américain).
Perso, "I INVITE them TO dinner", mais "I HAVE them FOR dinner."

"I had friends to dinner" About 29,300 results (0.98 seconds)
