Ridicule. Et faux.
I had friends for dinner. I had friends over for dinner. I had friends in for dinner.
Aucune incompréhension, aucun cannibalisme.
Par contre, "I had friends to dinner" se dit moins que "for"(et vraiment pas souvent en anglais américain).
Perso, "I INVITE them TO dinner", mais "I HAVE them FOR dinner."
"I had friends for dinner" About 29,700 results (0.79 seconds)
"I had friends to dinner" About 29,300 results (0.98 seconds)
Et regarde-moi ceci :
"I had company for dinner." About 6,400,000 results (0.83 seconds)
